International Classroom

When I first saw Berliner Platz and their illustrations, I thought to myself, “Wow, this language book is politically correct!” It featured students really from every part of the globe. I didn’t know the illustrations would actually become real life.

A couple of months ago, I thought going to school and living in Okinawa was diversed!  I’ve been fortunate enough to attend Kadena High School where the student population was a mix of kids from all over America (more particularly California and Hawaii), Japan, the Philippines, Korea, and China. But my A2 German classroom really takes the cake. My classmates are from Kenya, Russia, Korea, America, Turkey, Syria, Pakistan, Iran, and Serbia. Of course, our teacher is German. Even with terrible grammar and limited vocabulary, it’s enlightening to talk with each other about our different cultures. Although, outside of the classroom we do cheat and speak English which many of them do know.

Being in this class, it makes me wonder why in the world can’t we all just get along? We seem to do so well when we’re just students in a classroom.
